Master the Path Finder
You are going to be using the Path Finder all the time. This window should be open at all times, to get to it go to Window > Pathfinder, or press CTRL+Shift+F9. I often use the first two: Unite and Minus Front. But play around with this to get familiar, the next skill comes into play with the Minus Front..
Master Hot Keys for Arranging
This is pretty important because you don't use layers as much as you do in Photoshop, since things don't "stick together". It'd be a good idea to memorize these shortcuts rather than having to right click all the time.
Learn the Pen Tool
