Today I would like to introduce PHP Assist, a PHP development environment in the cloud.

completion, code sharing, and the option to run the code on a real server, enabling you to view your results and make changes if needed.

The PHP Assist environment will allow you to build a new PHP project using a visual editor, code

Enjoying code

Differing from other environments, PHP Assist features the unique option to build a whole project that includes multiple files, directories and sub-directories - just like a regular PHP project. Additionally, you can build a project based on popular frameworks like Zend Framework 2, Yii, Code Igniter and more without the need to setup the environment, server configurations and files uploading – and all this in one single click.

The environment

You will start by selecting the project type from the homepage, thus displaying the Editor’s page. On this page you will have several nifty buttons that will allow you to save, run, clone the project, download and share.  Clicking the share button, you will get a single line of code that you can embed into your site, creating a widget with the selected code, a live running result of that code and the option for anyone to edit the code in their own copy.

So… how does it work?

When running a project, it is instantly uploaded to Zend’s free cloud servers on PHPCloud.com, and all the relevant configurations and adjustments are set automatically in order to run the code – so each project gets the exact environment it needs. PHP Assist allows you to change the PHP version of the project from 5.3 to 5.4 in a single click, install the project on your PHPCloud container, and use version control – each change in the project is saved and revised so you can always return to previous versions and even select a specific version to share.

About the project

The project is developed by Amit Dar, an experienced PHP developer specializing in complex PHP projects. The idea for the project originated when Amit was looking for code examples for a relatively new project, and all available examples were partial or not completely coherent. Amit felt like that if he could get a full project example containing all the relevant code and file dependencies, he could extract so much more from just a few lines of code.

The idea evolved after Zend released its cloud service that allows the relatively easy creation of a PHP development environment, that together with the visual editor, created a comprehensive solution for PHP cloud development.

The project is just beginning to take shape and form,  and many features will be added in the near future, such as FTP connection, GIT management, private environment, code debugging and shared work on projects.

This looks AWESOME. Thanks for sharing!

Even better if someone has a Chrome Book!
